About this event

Hi my name is Marti Hackworth, RN,CLC , please join me for a Breastfeeding 101 Class in Richmond, KY in the C. Todd Jones 1st Floor Conference Room.

I will be going over the benefits of Breastfeeding for Moms and Babies, latch techniques, different positions and what to bring to Hospital with you. 

At end of class I will be answering any questions or concerns.


BENEFITS FOR BABY

Breastfeeding decreases the risk of developing:

  • Ear infection.
  • Gastroenteritis.
  • Lower respiratory infection.
  • Atopic dermatitis.
  • Asthma and allergies.
  • Obesity.
  • Types 1 and 2 diabetes.
  • Childhood leukemia. 14%–19% of cases are prevented by breastfeeding for six months.
  • Necrotizing enterocolitis.
  • SIDS. Breastfeeding for one month decreases SIDS by 50%.
  • Children have a higher IQ, achieve more years of education, and have a higher income at age 30.
  • Antibodies provided through breast milk help your baby fight infection.


BENEFITS FOR MOM

Breastfeeding decreases the risk of developing:

  • Breast cancer.
  • Ovarian cancer.
  • Type 2 diabetes.
  • Myocardial infarction and aspects of metabolic syndrome, such as coronary artery disease and stroke.
  • Postpartum depression.
  • Improves weight loss, postpartum.
  • Enhances bond between mother and baby.
